In 1925, Japan introduced Assam black tea (阿薩姆紅茶) into Taiwan, finding out that Nantou Sun Moon Lake National Scenic Area (南投日月潭) offered the best environment to plant Assam black tea. And the tea was met with warm welcome for its unique taste. The Sun and Moon Tea Factory was very active during the period of Japanese occupation, and there were over 200 people working there during peak times. In 1980s, due to the changes of market environment, many farmers started to plant betel trees, resulting into the practical production suspension of Antique Assam Tea Farm (魚池茶廠), where there were only 5 workers left in 2003 for factory tranformation. In 2004, Yuchi Township actively propelled the reviving of black tea industry, and after renovation, the factory retained the old buildings and transformed them into a scenic spot of sightseeing and entertainment.
There are two origins for the name of Seshui (澀水): one is spring water seeping out of mountains, namely “seeped water” and “discharged water” in Taiwan dialect; the second one is the astringent taste of spring water, hence called “Seshui”. From the name, we can see one of the biggest features here is heaven-sent waters and mountains.

Among them, “Seshui Royal Tea” (澀水皇茶) is a hybrid of Burma big-leave black tea and Taiwan wild mountain tea. After 58 times of modification, the super quality black tea in Seshui of Taiwan is produced, namely the world famous “TTES No.18” (臺茶18號) and “Taiwan Hongyu black tea” (臺灣紅玉). Besides, the unique Seshui “white fairy soil” (白仙土) resource, as rare quality clay, gives birth to the porcelain industry today in combination with the characteristic of brick building and firewood burning.
The Seshui Community, as a land of idyllic beauty, remains a good option to experience rural areas and natural landscape.
