Yunlin County is the hometown of hand puppetry. Whenever anyone speaks of hand puppetry, master Hai-Dai Huang immediately comes to mind. Hai-Dai Huang was born in 1901. He started learning the craft of hand puppetry at the age of 15 as an apprentice. After he became proficient, he founded “Wu Chou Yuan”, which produced numerous highly popular hand puppet shows. In particular, his unique hand puppet figure “Scholar Swordsman: Shi Yan-wen” is well known throughout Taiwan.
